‘CITY of SIGNS’ (2025)

„City of Signs” is a narrative of how 3D technology becomes a medium for the absent. Animation not only visualizes the missing links of our identity but allows them to resonate once more within the space of consciousness — a realm where physical reconstruction can no longer reach.
A key element of this visual narrative is the authentic, pre-war signage that returns to the facades of digital buildings like haunting afterimages. These small fragments of past everyday life, layered onto virtual architecture, serve as anchors of memory.
In this context, the creative process transforms into a digital archaeology of „unconscious heritage,” offering it a chance to re-emerge within the dialogue of the contemporary world. Through modern means of expression, the creation enables the „realization” and re-embedding into the landscape of that which has been erased from our collective memory.
The work is an integral part of the „CEMORY” project (The Prof. Ryszard Winiarski Institute of Media Art) — an interdisciplinary journey through the traumas and cultural transformations of Central and Eastern Europe. It is an attempt to capture the essence of loss — painful, irreversible, and often silenced — which, despite its invisibility, continues to sculpt our collective identity and define social strategies for the future.
