„INVIGILATE” (2005)

Invigilate is an art-project that involves surveilance people inside their apartments. The action legalizes voyeurism and the need to satisfy curiosity: when in the evening we stand on the balcony or window and watch the neighbors from the block opposite with impunity. This is an interactive work, you can choose the apartment you want to look at – just hover over the window. Blurry figures of people and fragmentary interiors of flats can be seen. The context of neighbors’ activities is unknown, so adding it depends on the degree of curiosity of the viewers. Surveillance reveals the paradox of blocks of flats – we learn more about people watching them, than living with them in one building. The curiosity of everyday life penetrates the walls, reveals people while interfering with privacy. The project is still visible on the internet in the form of a copy:

Inwigilacja to projekt polegający na podglądaniu ludzi we wnętrzach ich mieszkań. Działanie legalizuje nasz wojerystyczny odruch i zaspokaja ciekawość: gdy wieczorną porą stoimy na balkonie lub w oknie i podpatrujemy bezkarnie sąsiadów z bloku naprzeciwko. W tej interaktywnej pracy można wybrać mieszkanie, które chce się podejrzeć – wystarczy najechać na okno. Widać nieostre figury postaci i fragmentaryczne wnętrza mieszkań. Kontekst działań sąsiadów jest nieznany, dopowiedzenie go zależy więc od stopnia ciekawości widzów. Inwigilacja obnaża paradoks blokowisk – więcej dowiadujemy się o ludziach podglądając ich, niż żyjąc z nimi w jednym budynku. Podglądana codzienność przenika mury, odsłania zaś ludzi przy równoczesnej ingerencji w prywatność. Projekt jest wciąż widoczny w internecie w formie kopii:
